Simply put, our lives take on new meaning when we learn how to "wake up" from an unfocused frame of mind and be more present with our moment-to-moment experience. Ordinarily, we go about our daily activities with an easily distracted, somewhat chaotic sense of awareness, endlessly shifting from one random thought process, one destraction to another.
However common for most of us, this erratic form of consciousness does little to enhance our performance, mood, and overall sense of well-being. With our attention scattered and unfocused, we often find ourselves haphazardly coasting through our tasks and responsibilities, with only marginal effectiveness at best. The costs of this in terms of efficiency and quality of life are most likely incalculable. Fueled by the relentless pace of modern life and technology, most of us become habitually accustomed to this mental state, unaware there are other, more empowering ways to interact with our surroundings.
